All About Postpartum.
If you’re like many parents-to-be today, you’ve probably spent a lot of time thinking about and planning for your pregnancy and birth. There’s all the creative ways to announce your pregnancy, fun ways to reveal the sex of your baby, and of course the fabulous parties thrown in honor of the soon-to-be newborn. Many families think long and hard about what an ideal birth would look like for them, surround themselves with the desired support, take ALL the classes, and arrive at their child’s birth day well prepared.
Once the big day has come and gone, many families are then left wondering “now what?!”
All those classes about newborn care and feeding seem like a distant memory. The gorgeous swaddle blanket you got that seemed so simple on the model doll just won't stay put for more than 10 minutes. And every few minutes you think of a new question you wish you could ask someone (other than a family member who you know will give a little too much “helpful” advice). “Is breastfeeding supposed to be this hard?” “What kind of formula is best for my baby?” “How do I actually get any SLEEP with a newborn?!”
You may be feeling exhausted, emotional, overwhelmed by the growing to-do list, and possibly very alone. These feelings are completely normal and shared by most families with new babies.
But what if we told you there was another way…
What if we told you there was someone who could come to your home to help get the laundry done and the dishes washed. She could prepare snacks for you as you feed your baby. She could snuggle with your baby or rock your baby to sleep for you while you <gasp> have time to yourself to take a long, hot shower. She can even help you get a few solid hours of uninterrupted sleep!
Enter your Doulas of Asheville postpartum doulas.
Our job is to support you as you rest, recover from birth, and focus on bonding with your baby. Want to just stay in bed and snuggle with your baby? No problem. We can take care of the home and even play with older children so you can enjoy that quality time. Feeling like you need a break from that “quality time”? No problem! We can take over snuggling duties (really one of the best perks of this job) so you can fill your own cup for a bit. Feeling a little overwhelmed with all the “stuff” you got for the baby (and completely forget everything you learned in those baby classes?) We’ve got you covered. Interested in trying babywearing, but not quite sure how to use all the wraps and carriers you have on hand? We can help! Desperate for some adult conversation and a compassionate, listening ear to vent to? We happen to be specialists at that ;)
There’s a reason that expression “it takes a village” has stuck. It really does. Think of your postpartum doula as your village. We're baby and new-mom experts, here for you when you need support and totally focused on helping you be the best parents you can be. All on your terms, in line with your parenting philosophies, and without bias or judgement of your choices.
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
We promise you it’s not! We’d love the opportunity to show you what it’s like to have Doulas of Asheville’s support when you bring your baby home. We are available to support you day or night, for a few days, weeks or months. We even offer a “live-in” care package that provides 24-hr, around-the-clock support for up to 5 consecutive days.
