How did you decide to become a doula?

I had years of experience seeing doulas work with patients I cared for as a nurse before considering becoming a doula myself. It's been a great way to compliment and balance my professional aspirations. While I love bedside nursing, I don't get the luxury of being able to support one family at a time like I do as a doula, and I really love to be able to do this. I've been able to care for thousands of families and new babies as a Mother-Baby and now Labor & Delivery RN, but as a doula I get the freedom to work with families one-on-one, for as many hours as they need me, and to support them on their own personal birth and/or postpartum goals. In my role as a home health case management RN, I truly get the best of both worlds. I get to provide essential nursing care to my patients in their homes while having the time to truly get to know them and support them on an ongoing basis.

What's your favorite way to spend a day off?

There is nothing I love more on the weekends then to enjoy the great outdoors with my husband and children. We love camping, biking, hiking, and simply relaxing outside. Through the summer/fall you will also catch us cheering on our favorite team, The Cubs!

If you could take a month long trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

This is a hard choice, but I think I would split my time between Italy and Greece.

You have a whole weekend to binge watch TV, what's on your list?

The Mindy Project, Downton Abbey, Parks and Recreation, House of Cards

Tell us something about yourself that we may be surprised to learn.

I have only had to go to the ER once, and it was for water intoxication! Yes, this can really happen when you get a little zealous with your water intake during a bike race.
