Doulas of Asheville affiliated doula, Grace.

Meet Grace.

Grace’s pronouns are She/They.

Birth Doula | Abortion Doula| Certified Health Education Specialist

Grace completed her doula training through DONA International in November 2019 and simply fell in love with supporting pregnant people. Originally from Chicago, Grace went to DC for graduate school to study maternal and child health prior to moving to Asheville. Grace loves to use her active listening skills to hear exactly what a pregnant person wants. She is big on promoting a non-judgmental approach to birth.

Grace completed her abortion doula training through DC Doulas for Choice Collective and has the honor of supporting numerous people through this experience. She is also a member of the Queer Doula Network and the Association for Size Diversity and Health. She recently completed her birth photographer certification through Birth Becomes You, and is excited to tap into that side of birth in the future!

How did you decide to become a doula?
My decision to become a doula was almost spontaneous. I knew I was passionate at birth but wasn’t sure I had what it took to become a doula. Once I did my training, I figured I would take some time to complete my Masters before hopping into birth work. One day, my first client reached out to me and the stars aligned—she went into labor the day after she confirmed I would be her doula! Ever since then, I’ve dived headfirst into the world of birth work.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

I’m a big animal lover and love spending time with my cats. I love to read, make pottery (although I’m not very good yet!), and visit different coffee shops!

If you could take a month long trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’d love to do a road trip across the country — start on one coast and make my way through every state!

You have a whole weekend to binge watch TV, what's on your list?

I love trashy reality TV! The Bachelor, Love Island, Selling Sunset, Naked and Afraid. I love it all.

Tell us something about yourself that we may be surprised to learn.

I was actually on an episode of Judge Judy as a “witness” when I was in college. I didn’t actually speak on camera, but I got to experience the whole thing!
